Butterfly Garden

So I know it must seem awfully early, but living as far south as we do, it's just life. Yes, folks, not even a month after Christmas, and we have to start seeds if we want them for Spring. So we had a few planting days this last week to get these guys going into a garden for us. We started with a few little pots:And went on with a ton more. In addition to my herbs, we are growing a butterfly garden of milkweed, zinnias, parsley and dill. Hopefully they will want to come visit it and we can watch them.

Dakin had a good time with the planting. He wanted to be involved with the whole process--from stirring the peat pellet up to getting his fingers in the dirt.
And look! We already have sprouts!

**UPDATE** The Gwendolyn Strong Foundation is still in the fight--6th place as of tonight. Please help by voting at http://voteforsma.com/ and tell your friends!!!

Very, very fun! When Taleah died, friends of mine bought and planted two "butterfly bushes" in front of my house. The bushes grow so that I can see them out my living room window. We get lots of butterflies and even more hummingbirds. The bush, by itself, is kind of strange and not terribly attractive, but I love the visitors that it attracts.

I am so jealous that you guys are planting seeds. We only get to dream about that for at least 6 more months and we won't be able to place them outside until May!!

I'm sure Dakin had fun getting his hands in the dirt! I can't wait until we can start gardening here, but we have at least 4 more months to go!

I am so jealous! We had freezing rain today and the ground is still frozen solid. I can't wait to start working in the garden. The butterfly garden sound like so much fun. Dakin will love it for sure.

Sorry the foundation didn't witn the $1M, but glad they got $100,000 at least. Although I know that's not much for something so big like this.
