Bubbling Snot and Conversations With Dakin

We'll start with the snot. Tonight, as we were getting Dakin into bed, he needed to be suctioned. We put some saline down his trach and bagged him for a second to push the saline down into his lungs (to loosen his lung secretions so we can suck them out). Well, as soon as Daddy got the bag on his trach and started squeezing, I hear a "Oh my gosh, look at his nose." I looked up, afraid to see blood or something, but he had huge snot bubbles coming out of his nose--the bag had blown his nasal secretions out of his nostrils. So we sucked his nose out along with his lungs and he is now sleeping happily.

Dakin, while always having had been very talkative, has decided lately to have full on conversations. They are always with Daddy and usually go something like this:
Dakin: Da da?
Daddy: Yeah?
Dakin: Da da?
Daddy: Uh-huh?
Dakin: Da da?
Daddy: Yeah?

You get the idea. It goes on for a while and will usually terminate with Dakin finding something else to look at or occasionally with a "ha ha." He has also started saying quite a few words: butterfly (ba ba ba), bye bye (which sounds remarkably like butterfly), purple (also sounding similar to butterfly, though occasionally he'll get a l in the second syllable), Butt Paste (ba pa)--thanks, night nurse, lololol. One other pretty funny thing he'll do is look up at the ceiling fan and then look at you, trying to get you to look up. He's a funny little thing.

What a cutie pie! My girl has said dada for about 6 months and will not even attempt to say mama!

Hi Devon, This isn't about this post -- although the talking is darling. I was thinking about you because we did shaving cream painting and sticker valentines this week. I recommend a towel for the shaving cream because it gets messy -- put it in a pie pan or pizza pan and smear around. Gwendolyn loved feeling the "clouds" in her hands. And the sticker art is great. We decorate all sorts of things (foam, wood, paper) and Gwendolyn can put the sticker on wherever she wants and pull them off, too. Just some ideas to throw your way.

*sigh* soooo cute! I would love to have a conversation with him! I'm sure it would be a lot like the convo's I have with Chloe! Only her word is "mama."
